Can you connect to 3g networks in Europe, or is the SIM card like any other SIM card in that you could use GSM if you were in Europe?

No, the TB will not work with GSM and its related technologies.

Yes...LTE will be a global standard for 4g like GSM is the global standard for 3g.

To answer your first question, the TB is a LTE/CDMA phone. The 3g radio is CDMA so will work anywhere that used that.
