On my first attempt I did not have it correctly loaded into BootLoader Mode. I am correctly in it now and am attempting it.

yes, after the .sbf flash you need to reprogram.

Flashing the phone puts a clean install of (for your instance) the 2.1 OS.

Factory reset wipes all data and personal information from a device.

Factory reset, assuming you haven't rooted or flashed a ROM, puts the phone back into the state it was when it came 'out of the box'.

Ok well the update is going, it seems like the progress bar is going back and forth a little bit, but it hasn't shut it down yet like it was before I flashed
