Soft Bricked - Droid X Help

Hey All,
I have been at it for hours and still no luck. Originally I rooted my phone to take off the bloatware. The 2.3 update from Motarola was failing so I decided to try and restore the phone to its factory settings. Now I am in a world of hurt. Currently I can get the phone into the stock bootloader and I have an SD card reader so I can edit the SD card. Past that I have no access to the phone. I have tried all sorts of recovery methods but none seem to work.

Clear Cache / Factory reset - hangs on boot
update.zip - they all fail due to signing problems or State 7
RSD Lite - Doesnt see the device (drivers installed on win7)

I have a backup for the bootloader from "My Brain Hurts" but I cant get that loader to run anymore.

I would love to get this thing up and running again. It was running version 2.2 prior to the problems, but a factory reset at v1.0 would be fine with me.

Should I backup and wipe my SD card?

I have a mac and a PC and am pretty technical though there is no shell access so it really doesnt matter.

If anyone can point me in the right direction it would be much apreciated.

Okay,
It was a pain, but I got it. Turns out there is a difference between recover mode and the bootloader mode. Once I got the phone into boot loader mode I was able to get it to connect to the computer. Even then it wasnt a sure thing.

On a mac running ubuntu and windows 7 vmware images the thing wouldnt work. It kept hanging saying, "waiting for phone". I found a Win 7 32bit machine and it worked... I am going to get a back up and tread a lot lighter from now on.

Thanks for everything!
Joe
