pdanet and a android tablet

Ok, so I have a co-worker with an LG optimus S, and the rooting process is looking like I will need to access the ADB in order to root it. Because I have never done this before I don't think I want to try it on his phone because if I screw it up, well its his phone and not mine.

Anyway, he wants to get a wifi only tablet, so I was wondering if anyone has successfully been able to get pdnnet to run on a tablet to tether to a phone?

I'm just looking for an easy option for him.
