Trying to cut through the confusion of all the latest Motorola smartphones news is like trying to cut down a tree with a butter knife. Despite this, we are going to attempt to disseminate the latest intel, although we suspect it might simply add more to the confusion.

Today's story only refers the Moto S, the Moto X+1 and the Nexus X.

Supposedly, Motorola is testing a 5.2-inch version of the Moto S and a 5.9-inch version of the Moto S. The word on the street is that they will be gauging whether to release a 5.2-inch version of the device based upon public reaction of the Moto X+1.

Because of this, Google may be planning to clean up some of the unused devices in the supply chain. According to these supply chain sources, Google may repurpose some of those 5.2-inch Moto S devices into 5.2-inch versions of the Nexus X, even though the primary version of the Nexus X will be a 5.9-inch device.

Beyond this industry speculation regarding hop-scotching devices, we also have additional confirmation that Google plans to launch the Nexus X before Halloween. Sound off and let us know which size Nexus X you would prefer, if this intel turns out to be true.

on paper i would prefer the 5.9, it could eliminate the tablet all together IMHO.

Moto does have experience offering slightly tweaked versions of the same device with different screen sizes. Moto x, Droid Mini, Droid Ultra, and Droid Maxx all sported the same internals, but with 3 different screen sizes. the only other major differences were on screen vs capacitive buttons, outer case, wireless charging, and battery sizes.
