Pls forgive my ignorance, but I am not nearly as phone savvy as some of you.

The Droid is my first "smart" phone, and I love it. I just am not nearly as into it as many of you. I simply wanted a phone that would allow me to use the web and email as well as make calls and text.

I downloaded the application Handcent, based on the recommendations of many on this board. I now have it and like it. But, for the life of me, I dont see how to get rid of the original Messaging app. So now, every time I get 1 text, I get 2. LOL.

Can someone explain to me the proper way to deactivate the original and use only Handcent? Apparently, I am not too good at searching this site, because I would think this question has been asked before, but I cannt locate the thread. Thanks.

Go to the default messaging program, go to settings and turn off auto-retrieve and notifications.

Open up your messaging app. Then press the menu button and click settings. Scroll down to Notification Settings, uncheck the first box where it says NOTIFICATIONS: Display message notifications in status bar.

After that only the handcent one should show up.
