How to update Liberty 1.0 ! PLEASE HELP!! :D

Ok so I've never used a forum for asking questions but it seems to be effective so .... I would like to know how to update liberty 1.0 to 2.0 or higher I think 2.1.0 is out but anywho how do I update to that? Also I was wondering about themes, I have mysterious beast I was wondering how to change that because after I download a new theme it goes into recovery mode then says it failed and I am just a little confused so that being said I love some answers please
