Go SMS does that.
When your on your conversation list.
Settings >
Notifications >
Enable Pop Up >
And make sure screen unlock upon messages is unchecked.

Just did it now.
Screen doesn't come on but when I turn on the screen, pop-up is there.
Try it out.

What phone you got? And are you using a home launcher?

Droid 4. Not sure what a home launcher is..

Home Launcher like
GO Launcher EX
ADW EX
DX Home
Etc.

You may be running stock then.
Alright.

·Make sure your stock SMS notifications are completely off. 100% off.

·Go Sms vibration settings, make sure it's off.

·Check your phone settings and make sure if the sound is on or just off to test it out.

Sometimes other stock ettings will dominate other apps.

Just through your regular settings. Just make sure all notification are off.
Send yourself a text to see if any of your stock notifications pop-up.

From your home screen, go to menu, then settings, then sound. Options for vibration and haptic feedback should be in there.
