So tell me me what is the benefit of rooting? What is the risks of doing this? Can this void my warranty ? Can I tether for free ?

you can tether for free, get better battery life, run custom ROMs, overclock/undervolt. when you root, the possibilities are limitless.

I'm waiting too. I want to root but if something happens to my phone I don't know how to unroot and do all the ins and outs like I could with the droid x

Root will void your warranty but you can always unroot. Aside from that there are minimal risks.
