droid and linux

i have a simple ? I recently loaded ubunto on my laptop (first time using linux) im having trouble loading update.zip's on my droid. I normally rename things to just update (on windows) but when i do this or update.zip i get
E:cant open /sdcard/update.zip -- can anyone please tell me what im doing wrong? Thanks
