I called two stores and got no information about this report or this supposed ota update coming next week. Either phandroid is completely wrong or us usual verizon store managers are retarded.

The get one free options are the LG Glance or the LG VX5500, according to the Verizon website. But I suppose that could be set to change on Friday.

Excellent deal -- I don't have a need for a second line though.

I would be... took advantage of this when BB had BOGO. The BOGO started like 3 weeks after I bought my phone and added the second line... it took some hassle with VZW but I did get the second one FREE. GOOD LUCK!

I find it to be unfortunate. Cheapens the value of the phone. I hope its not true...and if it is hopefully it is only for those 3 days.

Here, I chatted with a sales person online.

Please wait for a Verizon Wireless sales representative to assist you with your order. Thank you for your patience! A Verizon Wireless online pre-sales specialist has joined the chat. You are now chatting with Markeya
Markeya: Hello. Thank you for visiting our chat service. What kind of help do you need with My Verizon Log in or Registration assistance?
You: Yes, I heard abotu a buy oen get one free offer for the droid this weekend, is this true?
You: buy one get one free i mean
Markeya: What I can do is transfer you to our Sales department to better assist you with answering your questions. Are you signed in?
Markeya: Are you a new customer?
You: No I'm not signed in but all I want to know if it's true or not. and i'm an existign customer
Markeya: Ok. That offer does not apply.
    You: Will it this weekend?
    Markeya: It will not.
Markeya: The offer will not apply to existing customer if so.
You: What if we add a line?
Markeya: The Droid will be cheap if you add a line but the offer but one get one free will not apply.

I'm not sure what you mean by "cheapens the value of the phone". Are you hoping it'll appreciate?

I guess I could be pissed that someone may pay a few bucks less than I did but as far as I'm concerned, more Droids=more apps & support=more attention from VZW. All good things.

Oh I could care less about what the cost of the phone in that sense. I have my Droid that is what is important to me. If I cared so much I could easily return my phone and go through another retailer such as Dell or whatever. I never made one remark about what I paid...but I guess you wanted to put words in my mouth.

Right or wrong it just cheapens the perception of the phone. If people are getting the phone for free some will think it must be a piece of sh*t...like I said right or wrong.

No, not at all, that's why I said "I'm not sure what you mean by?" Is there some reason you are choosing to make a smartass reply to a simple question?

How are people going to know. Lol this statement makes no sense. It doesn't cheapen any perception. Its called the holidays everyone has deals. I work for verizon and this is the first I have ever heard of perception of value. Its all good thats your opinion and thats fine, but in my opinion its a great buy and a way for someone less fortunate to have a new awesome device. iPhone dropped in price but I don't think it cheapened the perception of the phone its still the same phone just able to offer it at a less price.

When I got my DROID on the 6th, the Verizon rep offered me a free LG phone if I opened-up another line. My daughter is getting close to the age where she's needing one, so I said, "what the hell"? They waved the activation fee and now she gets a Birthday present.

This is a different deal, apparently?...

Oh--and keep in mind there's always a "price" to pay for early adopters on any new technology. :) Take me for example, who...

1.) Bought a DIVX player when they first came out.
2.) Bought a HD-DVD player two weeks before Toshiba killed the platform. (I couldn't return it...)
3.) Hmmm, no, I'm stopping there before I embarrass myself.

    LOL

My point, be damn happy you'll have more people in the DROID community and more apps to choose from in the very near future--if this is true! In terms of technology adoption, if my two examples don't convince you "more is better", then this post is meaningless.

They could possibly be doing this to compete with the other companies sellling Droid. i know places like dell mobile, walmart and other places are offering the Droid cheaper if you agree to a 2yr contract.

So if one adds a line with a Droid then another line up for upgrade could get a free Droid? Am I understanding this correctly? Or is it only for new customers/lines?
