You can activate any phone. But if you want the phone subsidized you have to pay for the new plan thus paying for the subsidization.

I had heard about the June 28th deadline back in May and ordered a spare Maxx with my last upgrade, to keep my unlimited. Any new phones I buy now will most likely be from Craigslist.

I sold my Droid 2 on Craigslist after I got my Maxx. I have a feeling that Craigslist will see lots of Verizon phones for sale in the coming days since Big Red wants to bang people for full retail to keep their plans. :blink:

All of the above.

Most of the phones you'll find on Craig's List are used and are being sold by an individual, but sometimes you'll come across a new one. You can also buy new/used phones on eBay or from sites like Swappa.

Thanks for the education guys. I had no idea such a market place outside of Verizon existed. How can someone sell a new phone that is unactivated for less than what Verizon retails them for? To get the discounted price doesn't it have to be activated?

You can get razr maxx's for anywhere from 150-400$ depending on condition..
