any way to turn off search that automatically starts all the time?

After an update awhile back, it seems like every time or much of the time when I hit the power button to turn off or on my screen the search screen comes up. It isn't when I hit the search icon on the lower part of the phone case ... it just starts all the time. very frustrating! is there any way to bypass this?

it seems like it comes up all the time when I unlock the screen to start too.

I'm sure it did not used to do this.

Droid Razr Maxx, which I absolutely love otherwise
