Do you mean flash a custom kernel like is possible on the droid 1?
With the locked bootloader that really isnt something you can do. When you switch your firmware, like when you switch from froyo to GB, it will switch which kernel is being used. But to just flash one to try to improve battery life and performance isnt really an option unfortunately.
