Wirefly drops the Droid to $49

VZW website still has it at $199.00 with plan renewal.

So - how does wirefly get to offer it for only $49.99 with plan renewal (which would still have to be a VZW plan)? cuskit

WOW! I am stunned. $49 with a two year plan is a steal. If Droid 2 comes out then I will sell my current Droid on Craigslist. You would never see the Iphone sell at that price and Droid is ten times better. I wonder what's going on......

If this is legit, I feel that it kinda cheapen the phone. This puts it in the same category of every other $50 or buy one get one free phone out there.

Cheapen the phone? It is an electronic device, not a status symbol. Technology marches on and gets cheaper all the time, just the way things work.

The cheaper it is, the more people will buy it, and the larger the demand for updates in the future, more applications developed, etc. Lowering the cost is only a good thing. BTW, I paid $300 with $100 mail in rebate when it first came out.

Verizon is selling them buy one get one free right now, and if you purchase from anywhere other than Verizon, there is a $30 or $35 activation charge, so this $50 droid is really $85, compared to Verizon $100 (if you buy 2), so not that big of a difference.

Apples to apples please. You compared buying 1 Droid from Wirefly (and now Dell Mobility Welcome to our Wireless World) for $49.99 to buying 2 Droids from VZW for $199.99. To be fair let us compare like to like. Thus 2 Droids from Wirefly/Dell would be $99.98 Vs. 2 Droids from VZW for $199.99.

The $35 activation fee applies to New Customers only on the primary line and $25 for all lines beyond the primary and is the same for either Wirefly/Dell. BTW VZW online also charges this.

The activation charge is not applied to existing customers who are eligible to renew/upgrade their current contract thru Wirefly/Dell nor thru VZW online.

Verizon Wireless never charges activation fees when existing customers upgrade their services

So for an existing verizon customer it would actually be $99.98 with free shipping, no activation charges, and no sales tax for 2 Droids thru Wirefly/Dell. Compared to VZW online at $199.99, free shipping, no activation charges, and sales tax of $16.49 here in Texas, for a total of $216.48.

That's $116.50 in savings when purchase thru Wirefly or Dell.

Or if you need only one Droid it would be $49.99 vs $216.48 for a savings of $166.49
