WiFi Disconnecting

I know there are a lot of topics about WiFi issues and yes I searched first and read a little about whats going on. From what I read though I didn't see too many people talking about the problem I'm having.

My X doesn't have bad performance when connected to a network, it just wont stay connected. It will connect to the network and then immediately disconnect and repeat this continuously. It does this even when I'm right next to the router, so I know its not a signal strength issue.

Is anyone else having this issue? Is this something that I should take the phone into Verizon for and try to get a replacement? If the chances are its going to happen when I get a new one, then its not worth it. I'm just trying to find out if this falls under the typical WiFi issues that everyone's having, or if its a separate problem.

I believe you are seeing the exact same issues as others are seeing but you don't realize it.

When I received my phone, it connected to my router (and others) without a problem. Stayed connected and performed as per the possible throughput of both the router and cable connection.

Updated the phone to the next OTA push and it went into the connect/disconnect loop and never seemed to work. I then had to change my router's settings from Mixed b/g/n to g-only and it again worked as before.

Next minor OTA update did the same thing -lame connect/disconnect loop - until I AGAIN changed my router's settings from g-only BACK to mixed b/g/n!

So, to me, it sounds exactly like what others are seeing and you maybe did not read the posts from 3 or 4 months ago which is why you feel you are seeing something different. It's unfortunately not.

I believe changing settings on your router will fix the issue but it will change your router from what you've already configured it to and that's not the best solution in my opinion. I have my router set the way I want it and the brand new out of the box phone worked just fine.

ONLY AFTER receiving the OTA updates did the phone fail (all my other devices still connect just fine) so it's the phone and the updates that are causing the issues no matter how much anyone will like to tell you it's your fault and the fault of your router for being mis-configured.

Try changing your router's security settings (WPA2 method), mode (b/g/n, g-only, n-only), and see if those changes help.

Replacing a perfectly good phone is probably not going to help especially if the OS on both is the same. You'll probably have the same results. It SHOULD work though and doesn't. Either Android or Motorola need to figure it out. After all, I have 2 PDAs, two hand held games, three laptops, a PC with a wireless add in card, two access points, and visitors who bring their devices and they ALL WORK FINE. Only troublemaker is the stupid Droid X which works fine until it gets a new OTA update!

If you search you will find the exact same problems in posts. There seems to be problems with some routers. Try removing security completely and see if that gets you connected.

I had the same problem and searched and found the same suggestions you're getting here. The only problem is, I'm not as tech savy as these guys are so I didn't really understand what they were saying. I called my internet tech support and explained the problem, and they fixed it over the phone. Works fine now.

Wi-Fi Disconnecting Issue

I don't know why but I opened my wireless administrator and resaved the same settings for security. As soon as I did that the phone connected to the router. Don't ask me why this worked but give it a try.

Yes I am, DX connects and immediately disconnects. I have been on this site trying to find a solution, when I first got the DX it worked great but since the 2.3.3 update I can't get connected to the home network. Some suggest you update your router, since it was working fine, I hesitate doing that since nothing else on the network is having problems. I sure would like to fix this. I have cleared cash, turned off phone, turned off router, reversed, same thing. I have a protected network with mac address access, phone is there.

Droid Disconnecting

I tried the fix suggested on this site, updating the router and it fixed the problem. I didn't have any other issues with my network either and I could connect to my guest network. Updating the router only took a few minutes. :)

wifi discon

I just am apprehensive, I have 15 other items that use the network and are fine, it's just my DX and it was connecting fine. Back in Sept./Oct. something changed. I use MAC filtering and it's MAC address is there, WPA-TKIP so nothing "new" and different, my key is long but easy to do. I just don't get it. Grabbed husbands Samsung tab and configured it in about a second. Downloaded WIFI Analyzer and it was working great. So why the problem with the DX??? IDK

Wifi is a stubborn and inconsistent technology. I've experienced issues before where everything in the house will connect fine one day then all of a sudden one device may not connect. Reboot of the router takes care of it. I work in tech support too and hear similar issues....our end users will report their work laptop won't get a wifi signal but the ir home systems can. Reboot router...problem solved.

I think too many people have this idea that wireless is going to be flawless at all times. There are going to be kinks, just like every technology...nothing is perfect. Too many folks seem to use wireless as a crutch for convenience's sake and don't realize that it too has faults.
