Whats the point of having wifi when theres 3g?

If you have to pay $30 montly for data charge, then why do you need to use wifi? Can't you just use 3g?

Wifi is much faster than even 3G. Plus, it takes a load off of your data.

If you can get a good wifi connection, then by all means use the wifi...it's much faster

You can not talk on the voice phone and do data on 3G at the same time ... you can talk and use wifi.

Wifi is likely faster than 3g for big downloads.

just another option. wifi may be good if you work in a building where the 3g signal isnt as strong.

I guess I'm the odd man out -- I live in a small town in central PA. VZW provides 3G and I have Verizon DSL with WIFI. When I had my iPhone I used my WIFI because AT&T 3G was not available only Edge.

Now that I have my Driod (rooted and OC) I have great speed with 3G and have WIFI disabled. Since OC my speed has increased so I'm happy.

It's more of a gentleman's courtesy to enable wifi and use it. Not only is it faster, but wireless isn't exactly well equipped for massive data. Just ask AT&T.

So while Verizon can handle it better, they too may someday run into the same problems AT&T is experiencing in certain urban areas.

right now, i just did a speedtest on my phone, my wifi has my droid at 9.8 megs a sec download and the 3g is at 2megs a sec download

so wifi is a lot faster...

Since I live in an area with weak 1X and 3g signal, wifi is a must.
