What's better, IMAP or POP ??

Let me explain why I ask. 1st. I have my main email account on charter.net, and has been a pop account for years.

I just got my MAXX HD activated a couple days ago and the Verizon rep set up my email to check the charter.net account as IMAP I guess. Well that really screwed things up!! My laptop and desktop (pop accounts) kept giving me a email read fault and said it was being access by "another" so I couldn't do anything on my laptop or desktop. Called Charter, and they said I would have to change the two computers to check Charter.net via IMAP! I'm not so sure I like IMAP.

What are my options????
