What is the purpose of "moving apps to the Media Area" under applications?

In the applications setting under manage applications you have your downloaded, all, MEDIA AREA and running. When you click on the media area tab you have the option to move some particular applications over to the media area similar to how my OG droid allowed me to "move apps to sd card." Anyone have any idea what the purpose is to move some apps into a different "partition/area" for the internal storage. Its weird, I don't have options to move apps to sd card like I used to. Just curious, but regardless love the new phone.
