What happens if you root and Verizon sends out an update?

I've never rooted before but from what I've read it's not that hard to do. I'm considering rooting the Rezound to get rid of Sense and all the bloatware. From what I understand I could get a ROM that would make it so my phone runs ICS, right? (I loved my Nexus but had to get rid of it because of the signal/reception issues) Heck I'd even be happy with Gingerbread or Froyo, if that's what they're called... I just want to go back to plain ol' android.

So, my question is if I do root my phone... what happens when Verizon rolls out the next big update? Will the update be able to install and take the phone back to factory settings or will it turn it into a brick or is it completely unknown what will happen?;)

If you are ONLY rooted, then the update will probably break root and you will have to root again (assuming the same method works with the update). If you froze bloatware which are system files the update will download then fail during the installation process and you just won't be on the latest update.

Does anyone know a possible time-frame of when the next update will be? I haven't seen anything other than possibilities of ICS by "March"

Thanks for the explanation! That's helpful!

Supposed to be first quarter 2012 I think... nobody has an official date yet.
