Vibrate and haptic are intermittent and not working

I have a year and a few months old galaxy s3, AT&T, and since this morning, the vibrate and haptic are fading in and out. Everything from the haptic on the keys and back button to changing my phone from sound on to vibrate, sometimes it will vibrate, and sometimes it won't. When I go into the settings to the vibrate "tones" none of them work as they're supposed to, they cut in and out and if I play with it too long it stops working completely.

I just upgraded the software recently and I'm running 4.1.2 with no rooting or special roms or anything. Anyone have some insight? Am I stuck getting a new body?

You may have a bad connection to the motor that produces the vibration but it also could be that the motor is wearing out. Hard to say.

I don't have extended warranty. Am I going to have to buy a new body?

My guess is either to send it for repair or get a new phone. The vibration component is likely an integrated component of the motherboard.
