Verizon/Samsung Release Source Code for Froyo, Finally...

Help me to understand something, is this a typical first step in getting the update over OTA? First they release the source code, then test it, then release OTA? I want to believe this means we are getting closer to an OTA release, but I am wary to get ym hopes up.

What does this mean to the lay users such as myself. Can we load the tar.gz file directly to our phones using Odin? Or do we need to wait on one of the fabulous developers to package it?

This is source code. It's useless to the end user. Devs need to come up w/ custom ROMs or kernels that make use of it.

Okay folks. Now it is official. Software release shows up in my software . Lots of improvements like car dock speaker phone annoyance fixed, email push for imap, pop and exchange, battery icon a bunch of other stuff and yes froyo. OTA should be ready to go. Going to try a manual on the wife's fascinate when I get home. Her fascinate will now be just as good as my x but with a better screen. For now .
; )

Now you all can start whining about gingerbread LOL.

Update.
Release notes say update approved. In store and ota TBD. Last update had a two day window from approved to the actual ota.

The software I use at work. Where I work matters. I would imagine if one we're to call in and ask a good rep can find it in the software release notes. If it is there it is no secret. It is there .

Most likely the OTA will come with a bootlock. Just a thing to consider.

ec01 debloated
enderst special kernel
uv50 oc1.2

I'm sorry for sounding kind of noobish, but does this mean that even better froyo roms will be coming out? I didn't think it got any better than Super Clean 2.9.2! This is going to be awesome. This phone will finally be able to compete with the other phones currently available at VZW (with only a few exceptions). Definitely exciting news.
