USB Problem

My motorola droid 1 recently developed a problem with connecting to a usb cable. I can't charge my phone or connect to pc. It connects like 1 in every 7 attempts. I turned on usb debugging and everything. At first i thought it was the custom rom i was using, but i have wiped data 3 times and tried 3 different roms including stock. So, whats the problem? Should i unroot and take it to verizon? ( I bought it off craigslist but its worth a try.)

When you plug the usb cable into your phone and then either the wall charger or the computer does the little white light next to the usb port on your phone light up?? If not you may have a bad usb port and would need to take it to verizon to have them give you a refurb phone. Just remember to unroot first before going to Verizon.
