problem with usb connection

My RAZR maxx is only connecting to my computer using one of my micro USB cables. The other ones charge it, but no data connection.

It's not the cables, because other devices work fine with them. The USB port on my phone also was just replaced. And when in fast boot mode, it says USB connected regardless of what cable I use.

What is going on here?

Moto phones are notoriously picky about using the OEM USB cables only. Son if you're using different cables, just use the OEM one.

Interesting. Any technical reason why it's so picky?

What differentiates a USB cable? They look exactly alike!

Not sure about specifications, but I know from personal experience on several different moto devices that Samsung cables don't work and neither do the cheaply universal no-name cables.

This started back with the droid x.

Funny, because the no name cable I got from ebay is the only one that works!

OEM moto cables are only like $3-4. Just bought a couple!
