Verizon has been working on getting people to upgrade to a smartphone with a data plan and their latest promo might do just that. If you are currently using a non-Droid or smartphone of any kind, Verizon will offer you $100 if you trade it in and get a new smartphone and a data plan. The deal changes depending on if you are a new customer, a current customer, you're adding a line or whatever else.

If you choose to do this for a new device, you will have to get a data plan for at least $30/month and Verizon will mail you a box to put your old phone in. When they receive this box, you will get a $100 gift card to be used at any Verizon store.

Question. If you are on smartphone with unlimited data and downgrade to dumbphone to take advantage of this, wouldn't you lose unlimited data when you go back?

Sent from my SCH-I500

What I am curious is that the text doesn't explicitly say that the dumbphone has to be active on the line when you upgrade to a smartphone. So if you have a smartphone already, and you get a new smartphone, will the system still send you that promotion code? If it does, then you should be able to just send in any old dumbphone that you have lying around and get the $100?

Thats what Im wondering, if I can just bring one of my old dumb phones and bring the Bionic price down to $199 ....

I got this promo in the mail the other day. Funny thing is that I have an OG Droid and it was specifically for my phone number. Yet my wife has an old EnV and she didn't get it:p
