Update version 2.2 for Galaxy S - Fascinate

Now that the GPS us fixed I am looking forward to flash support and apps2sd. I can be patient for 2.2 as long as we do get it. I just want to see all the negative posts stop once we get it but I expect there will be new things to complain about once 2.2 gets released. If you don't like your phone why did you buy it? Next time I suggest buying a phone that has the current update. If you were promised the update than I also suggest not buying anything from salesmen because they will tell you anything to get a sale. Do some research on your own and don't believe everything you see or read.

Here's exactly what will happen (its like I'm a psychic or something):

A bunch of dates are going to be discussed about when 2.2 is coming out. Samsung, Verizon employees, garden gnomes; all sources for 'secret announcements'. Those will all be completely wrong, and people will get more angry. Eventually Verizon will release the update, and during the week or two it takes for everyone to get it, people will be even more angry that someone got it before them.

People will be really happy for a day or two. Then they will start finding bugs, or at least things they think are bugs, and the boards will be filled with them. Some people will start wishing they never upgraded, and start a campaign to revert back to 2.1.

Next, the 2.3 saga will start. And since neither Samsung nor Verizon have said that they will release it, there's acres more room for speculation, hope, and anger. 2.3 isn't just an "when", its an "if" with a good chance of "nope". A lot of people will start to hate their Fascinate, and curse the day they ever bought it, mainly because of a number that's posted in the "About" screen on their phone.

Samsung will release a new phone to replace the Fascinate, which will fix everything we don't like about the current model (and also introduce a bunch of new problems, but we won't focus on that.)

So what am I really saying here? Enjoy your phone. Its cool, and its probably a LOT better than the last one you had. If you have a specific problem with it, come to the forums and see if someone can help you. Don't let the phone geeks bring you down by convincing you that you shouldn't like your phone the way it is.

@Bluevolume
I like the phone just fine but have been toying with the idea of rooting it, which will give me all of the features that I believe I'm missing now, unless I'm sadly ill informed. The only reason I haven't rooted yet is that I wanted to wait until the 2.2 update and see what garbage Verizon chokes it down with. But since 3.0 will probably be readily available by the time we get 2.2, I may as well root the damn thing now and keep up with the real world updates.

Is someone working on a 3.0 based ROM for the Fascinate?

Sent Samsung a nasty email about their lack of customer care. Here is what I received.

Dear ,

Thank you for your inquiry. We are unable to speculate when/if a software revision with this feature might be available due to the fact that this might lead to inaccurate information and confusion.

Should this be available, it will be posted in our website or you will be informed by your service provider.

Please feel free to check with us periodically for updates

Thank you again for your comments. We hope that you will give us another opportunity to serve you.

Thank you for your understanding and patience.

Sincerely,
Technical Support
Chris"

Yeah that's just a copy and paste they put for every question about froyo for the Galaxy S phones in the US, I got the same reply.

I think this sums it up pretty well. :icon_ banana:

This has been posted dozens of times already, and Samsung has already responded specifically and said it's not true.

Remember, it's the internet. People can say anything they want. You don't get to see their face, or challenge them on their credibility.

Of course samsung will say it's not true...it makes them look bad! Of course it's true!

Fascinating (no pun intended). LOL...as was stated above, one can state anything on the internet and not have to back it up with facts, however, what was decribed in that link reads as being totally plausible...

I'm going to check with my Samsung rep and see if I can get any 'off the record' feedback from her on this... DBV

I switched from the LG Ally a few weeks ago and am VERY pleased with the Fascinate! Like many of you I'm waiting on the froyo update and just read that Verizon has pushed the froyo update for the Ally out early... I wish they could do that for us....

Read the article here Ally gets 2.2 early

Well, the Samsung Vibrant owners will start receiving 2.2 tomorrow, and will last for weeks. It shouldn't be too long now.
