One of the first new 4G smartphones from Verizon has just been announced. Samsung and Verizon have been 'cooking' together on this new 'as-yet-unnamed' Android phone designed to utilize Verizon's 4G LTE network. Here are some specs:
  • Android 2.2
  • Brilliant 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus touch screen display
  • 1GHz application processor
  • Rear-facing 8-megapixel camera with LED flash
  • Front-facing 1.3-megapixel camera to support video chat capabilities
It may not have the most advanced features like a dual-core processor and the ability to do your laundry for you (in case you didn't realize it, that last ability is a joke, btw), but it will be one of the first 4G LTE devices and will probably be pretty cheap, I would guess. Maybe those who just need blazingly fast Internet but not a lot of other 'bells & whistles' might snap this up? We'll share more details as they come. (Has dual-core technology really already spoiled us this much... ?)

[Update] Samsung also just announced, in partnership with Verizon, their new 4G LTE Tablet. Here's a snippet from the press folks:
4G LTE-enabled Samsung Galaxy Tab™ - 7-inch enhanced TFT display with 1024 x 600 WSVGA resolution, Android 2.2, Adobe® Flash® 10.1, 1.2GHz Cortex A8 Hummingbird application processor, rear-facing 5-megapixel camera and front-facing 1.3-megapixel camera and camcorder enable video chat capabilities.

After the bionic I just can't get excited for any Android phone that doesn't have a dual core processor in it. Sorry Samsung, but even if you beat the bionic to market by a few months it's just not going to capture any excitement.
