Toshiba just brought us a little something for those Android lovers that want something similar to the iPad. This new tablet brings together the hardware needed to bring you a great tablet experience, and unlike most, doesn't include a slow processor to limit your enjoyment. The features include the previously mentioned dual cameras, 5MP in the back and 2MP in front for those video call moments (Skype hopefully coming soon). The device is powered by a Tegra 2 dual core processor, which means you should see great performance out of the tablet and hopefully Honeycomb is optimized for this. The screen is a nice capacitive 1280 x 800-resolution display that incorporates the usual features, along with both accelerometer and ambient light sensors for an adaptive screen experience. The last thing to mention, spec wise, is the full sized USB and HDMI jacks, a single mini-USB socket, and an SD card slot.

While we wait for Honeycomb to be released, and this device to come with it, Engadget had this to say about the tablet:

While we couldn't turn on the dual-core Tegra 2-powered tablet, which will eventually run "the next version of Android designed for tablets" aka Honeycomb, we have to say the EasyGrip, spill-resistant, rubberized back felt really solid in hand and the 1.7-pound, .6-inch thick tablet felt comparable to the iPad in terms of portability. Oh, and did we mention that the aforementioned rear cover is swappable, so not only can you change its color but you can replace the battery? We told you it had some of the ingredients to make it go far, but we're obviously lacking quite a bit of information here to make any further decisions.
Now I am sure this is what many of you were waiting for. It has specs of a great device, a processor to power that great device, and a new OS that is optimized for such awesome devices. Is there anything else you want in this tablet? How much would you pay for this? Tell us your thoughts over at the Android Tablet Forum.

I *want* that tablet! It appears, based on the report, to be close to perfection. How much would I pay for it? Depends on whether or not you can run it on wifi only. I'm not looking to add a data package from Verizon to the mix.

This is actually pretty exciting stuff! I'm not currently in the market for a tablet device, but I can say without any hesitation that this is the first one that I've actually gotten excited about! Most of the Android tablets that have been released so far have seemed sub-par, if you're using the iPad as the baseline for comparison. However if I had an extra $800 lying about, I would seriously consider purchasing one of these bad boys when they're released.

If a wifi-only version of it is released for less than $400, I WILL undoubtedly buy one!

I love the tablet... I'm currently lookin for one. I really like tthe droid operating system in a tablet.

My question is how much different would a tablet like this compare to the archos tablets???

They carry a windows 7 one with an intel processor and a good size harddrive for the size. I'm not buyin one till taxes come in. But wanna be sure n happy on wat i get. Anyone got input?

Wonder if it will be vanilla Android or not or an unlocked bootloader.

Since Tooshiba doesn't "skin" anything else they sell I would be pretty sure its vanilla Android.

Wow... lambs to the slaughter... can't believe how people HAVEN'T yet learn that SPECS ARE MEANINGLESS... Yes I want a Android tablet but I've also used most of them out there so far and THEY SUCK (yes, even the rooted Veiwsonic and Archos)... the closest thing to a 'good' tablet out there now is the Galaxy (which is way overpriced and nothing more than a large phone)... until we actually SEE what Honeycomb is and does (and until developers support the tabs with apps) all this is meaningless OR at the VERY LEAST until they TURN THE TABLET ON... really... you guys are ready to buy a tablet before anyone has had a chance to actually 'use' it... Maybe it's because it's nothing new to me and/or I expect more than what's offered in the current tablets (I've had IBM tablets for several years and expect MORE than what the current Android tabs offer) but they have a long way to go before the are ready for mainstream (especially compared to other offering like the Dell Duo or the HP Slate).

Edit:
Is it just me or is Android (or at least their fans) becoming as self-absorbed as Apple... people are willing to buy and/or review a product as 'perfect' based on NOTHING other than specs and OS.... reality check.... I love my Droid but Android has a LONGGGGG way to go before it's even on a level playing field as WinMo and iPOS let alone 'ahead' of them. People need to realize that the reason manufactures have jumped onto Android is NOT because of features or anything but because it COSTS THEM NOTHING (compared to developing their own OS or licensing M$).

To me, I just want to see something come along to kick out the iPad. I know I'm not going to buy a tablet as soon as it comes out. Gonna wait til they get the hardware (and software) bugs out of it, as well as the price drop, before I actually seriously consider buying one. It's just like anything else, the first round never has truly 100% of the bugs out of it; And I'm not the kind to drop a ton of money on something that I don't think is concrete... IMO

What about the Notion Ink? Right now the Notion Ink has most of my attention.
