This is my plan... Does it sound right?

I just got my new D1 from VZW today, it is stock with 2.1, so this is my plan.

Easy root.

Update to 2.2, FRG01B or FRG22... I still don't know which is better the newest release of FRG01B or FRG22?

Install something like Ultimate Droid 6.0... Is there a better one?

Overclock.

Enjoy free wifi tether.


Ok, so maybe some of you pros can let me know if my plan is good, if it is in the right order, and what else I might need to do. I would appreciate any advice.

Oh, one more thing, at what point do I install SPRecovery? That seems to be the one everybody likes, so is it something I need to be rooted for?

And, Is the Easyroot I am looking for the one in Market made by Unstable apps?

You don't have to root to run 2.2. There is a sticky thread that will help get you running it without root.

Thank you, However I want to root to enjoy all the benefits that come with it.

Just not sure if I root, the update, or vice versa.

And at what point to I do a back up, before root, after root and before update?

I just grabbed mine this week without researching also. After a bit of thought I think I'm just going to return the phone and hope for no fees. The new phones been rumored to use less power (not sure if its the cpu difference or froyo .. w/e), 2x cpu power stock and tethering built in I believe. Either way, just seems like it's a better choice.
