Text messages sometimes arrive without ringing; vibrate only

I don't understand why I don't ALWAYS get ringtone notifications when text messages arrive.

Is it because I'm using a proprietary app or is it because the phone just fails to sent a ringtone with a text message arrives?

This is very inconsistent. Sometimes a message arrives with a ringtone but subsequent messages in a thread fail to sound when they arrive I just get vibration alerts that a text has arrived. I often miss text messages when I'm not holding my phone or it isn't close by.

I would remove the App and see if the problem goes away.

Is this happening when the screen is on and you're using it, or when the screen is off and it's in your pocket or on a table/etc?

Also, did you set a custom ringtone for the app? And/or is it a custom ringtone for that particular contact?

Or, does this happen with multiple different contacts?

Sorry for the third degree. Just trying to see if we can help nail this down.

Usually when the screen is off, in my pocket of in a table.

I've tried setting custom ringtones of a contact but that failed, so I use the same ringtone for all.

It seems to only do this with one contact.

Strange. Open contacts and make sure that specific contact doesn't have a "silent" ringtone assigned to him/her.
