Text Message Icon

Is there a way to change the Text icon from that odd looking smiley face to the envelope? It might sound stupid, but that was sort of a selling point when I originally bought the D2G was the envelope vs the smiley face you found in some HTC devices and such...

Oh and I'd like to do this WITHOUT rooting...

Oh, and Im assuming the icon changed with one of the updates? cause most of the videos of the D4 I see have the envelope..

You'd just have to swap out the pngs. But I think you'd have to be rooted because you'd have pull it from/system/app and install it back to /system/app after your edits. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.
