Good or bad? I have heard that they can cause more harm than good because some apps should always run...also i hear that if you are running 2.2 you don't really need one so can i get a solid verdict on this topic...good? Or bad?

Unequivocally bad. Android has its own native task killer and using an auto killer just gets in the way.

A task killer actually works against the native function of Android to kill resource-hogging applications. Let Android do its thing.
You may consider getting the Watchdog app, which will notify you of any misbehaving apps and give you the option to manually kill it. Go to the developer's website for an excellent explanation of all this.
