Sudden Battery Drop

I lost data connection so i powered down my bionic. I had 40% when it powered down and then suddenly change to say I have 5% battery left. I powered up and it's still registering 5%. I have never seen this before except when the battery is old and needs replacing. I just got this phone from verizon 2 weeks ago.

This happened 10mins ago and I have had my phone plugged in since I powered down, except for taking the charger off for just a second. Its still in the red. I know 10mins isn't that long but I'm worried I'm about to lose my battery all together. Anyone have this problem?

some days my phone will last nearly all day, others battery life will be poor. One time I had nearly full battery, next minute the 15% alarm went off with no reason I could see. hasn't done that since though.
