Strange keyboard behavior

Hello all. I'm trying to get opinions on a problem with my keyboard. I'm rooted using Go Launcher ... thinking of going to Cyanogen.

When my phone is in portrait mode, I am unable to use the following keys: I, k, and m. If I go to the numbers page, those same corresponding keys are inoperative. But here's the weird thing... if I switch to the numbers page and choose 'alt' those corresponding keys are working. At first I thought it was my touch screen, and maybe it still is, but I can't imagine that would only affect specific keys. I have installed and tried 3 different keyboards besides the stock, so I'm stumped. And ideas?

Amendment: alt button no longer makes a difference. :-(

Then it might be a hardware problem. Unroot and bring it into a store, see if the reps make anything of it. Hope this gets resolved

Thanks for your response ... I was afraid of that but didn't want to bring it there until I got an objective opinion. This will be my third return on this phone... :-(
