Typically writing about this particular person on a forum that is about Android phones is frowned upon, but this is no ordinary person or circumstance. Steve Jobs just announced his resignation from Apple last night, due to health issues. Steve Jobs has stood as CEO of Apple for years since starting the company, being let go by the board of directors, and coming back again to take control and save his creation from going down the drain. In a span of almost 20 years, Jobs has brought the company, that once borrowed money from Microsoft to sustain itself, to the largest and most valuable brand in the game. His invention of the iPhone, as much as I would hate to say it, truly changed the game of mobile phones. Every device that was released while he was in control of Apple has changed the game (iPad, iTouch, iPhone), and lead the way for even better devices to come along.

His resignation is one that has been coming for months now due to his health, and with Tim Cook taking his place, we say goodbye to one of the most influential tech guys that ever lived. He is slowly stepping away from the whole Apple scene, and I will certainly miss seeing him announce Apple's new devices in front of millions of electrified viewers.
I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple's CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come.

I hereby resign as CEO of Apple. I would like to serve, if the Board sees fit, as Chairman of the Board, director and Apple employee.

As far as my successor goes, I strongly recommend that we execute our succession plan and name Tim Cook as CEO of Apple.

I believe Apple's brightest and most innovative days are ahead of it. And I look forward to watching and contributing to its success in a new role.

I have made some of the best friends of my life at Apple, and I thank you all for the many years of being able to work alongside you.

Steve

Let us end by saying; Thank you Steve Jobs. Your hard work has forced countless companies to push through and bring out worthwhile technology for us, the consumers.

I'm sorry. Didn't know the forum was called "breaking apple news forums." Just kidding, but it was just late last night... I didn't know that constituted this "not very very important" story as late.

oh no i agree it's important news even if it's not android related, but the point is there are multiple threads started by users and even administrators about this...we're always told to search before we post, figured the news team could benefit from that advice too haha

The front page is for news that's meant for everyone to see and everyone to communicate about it. Meaning something might be written somewhere else, doesn't mean we won't write about it here as well.
This way more people can see and share their thoughts.

Could this mean the lawsuits will slow down or stop?

Find it funny that Gizmodo and other sites say they aren't Apple fanboys and aren't biased yet all that's on their sites is stuff about Jobs.

I like seeing comments on other sites saying how shocking this is. I honestly am not shocked, I think Tim has been taking more and more off of jobs plate for the past year and now its just "official." I think it was an obvious move, especially after seeing him in that video pitching his new headquarters building to city counsel... Not exactly healthy looking. I hope his health gets better, he sure could use less stress with being ceo. Resigning seems like the good choice. Hes got a lot of money, if i were him id go on vacation for awhile and relax. Hopefully his health will improve, but if not, at least hed be going out in the Bahamas or something.

This is big news. It may have been somewhat expected but still big news. Of course every tech site is going to write about it. Do you think it wouldn't be as big of a story if it were Bill Gates resigning from M$? You're crazy if you do.

Jobs was the ceo of a huge tech company, handheld technology to be specific. This site covers handheld technology. Its not biased or even off topic to talk about it. Its like if you go to a sports site thats about a specific team A, of course its going to talk mostly about that team A but its relevant to talk about other teams as well, especially if that team B has an effect on team A. Can you imagine sports sites if they only reported about one team without mention any others? Haha, sorry for going in depth. had to be done.

I read an article on Yahoo! about this and it was kind of funny what I read in the article pertaining to the current lawsuits that Apple are filing against other companies. Here's an excerpt from the article.

"'We have always been shameless about stealing great ideas,'" Jobs said in an interview for the PBS series 'Triumph of the Nerds.'"

That quote from Steve Jobs made me laugh. Here's the link to the full article on Yahoo! for anyone interested in reading it.

Anyway, from what I posted earlier, the other companies that are being sued by Apple should be allowed to use that quote from Steve Jobs against Apple! :icon_ devil: HAHAHAHA!

Its a shame to see him step down. I don't like Apple much as a company but Jobs is quite the inventor. If not for him the smartphone market may not have been where it is today.
