Ssh-vpn setup

I've been able to successfully set up a ssh server and ssh from my droid to my laptop, and I see people talking about how to see more than just a shell, such as a whole desktop, using a vpn connection. Are there any good walkthroughs that can help me with this, I've tried two already but I keep running into errors or they seem to complicated.
