Sound Issues

My sounds such as ringtones and notification sounds will be working fine and then will randomly stop. The only way to fix this issue is to power off the phone and reboot it. Is this a common problem? Is there a setting I have set wrong? Can anyone offer me any help?

Yesterday my stock music app refused to play through my headphones, just blared out the back speaker (my fellow bus commuters were not impressed). Anybody know if there is a toggle or setting for this?
