I'm trying to find a way to cut down on my monthly bill and was wondering the apps that say they offer "free sms" do they actually work? who knows of a good app or way to get my texts to be 100% free.

Google voice has free SMS but you would have to give your friends a separate number to text you on.

for ease I was hopeing for something where texts would come to the same number to avoid any confusion of which is for calling and the other is texting.

Don't think that's do able, I could be wrong but I've not heard of one.

nope i looked into it when I got mine and theres nothing that you can keep your own number everything puts out its on number to use

I use chomp sms just as a nicer widget and way to view my texts and whatnot, but it did say something about free texting. You might want to check it out.

Just an fyi, if you can get your friends to send your sms/mms to [email protected] or [email protected] your phone will show it as a text but it comes through as data/email
