If you're willing to pay for VZ Nav then why not just buy a dedicated unit like a Nuvi or TomTom?

I'd gladly pay $10 a month for a few more months than the $150 for a stand-alone-unit. I also really enjoy having less to do.
When the gps is connected to your address book life is easier.
Putting in addresses is no fun and neither is having more to carry.

really? vz navigator is a joke. you can have GPS units for around $50 these days. what mapping software does vz navigator even use?

True true...I understand what you're saying.

Do you have any other apps that utilize GPS? I have had a couple of instances where the GPS took a long time to lock but FCing the maps app usually corrects it for me.

Google Nav also takes into account traffic conditions for routing purposes so that may be why you get different directions going to the same dest at different times of the day.

vz navigator is a joke.

i wouldn't call it a joke.
it's the primary option for many bb users who want gps software on their phone.
google nav is as good if not better... when it works. I'd say better because it doesn't use just agps vznav does- VZNAV: no cell, no nav... NOT GOOD

I had another application cause Google Navigation to be inaccurate on the location. It would put me near the spot but not very good. Then it would update every minute or so. Once I uninstalled the application causing the issue the Navigator worked great. I would bet the problem is another application causing the issues.

ShopSavvy? I had issues with that app.

Do you have advanced task killer? If so then try killing ANYTHING (browser, voice search, shopsavvy, weather widgets, etc) that may be using GPS when you're having trouble getting a lock. Then restart nav and see if that helps.

I know that won't help with routing but its all I got...............

Hey everyone, I have used Google Nav since I bought my Droid in early January and used it with NO PROBLEMS every week day since I got it.

Until this morning! Searching for GPS... was my problem for HOURS!

SUMMARY >> My problem was fixed by uninstalling another app (DailyRoads Voyager) that I recently updated! Now my GPS works again.

I just thought I'd chime in here and include my last post from that other thread since it kind of relates to this thread....

I had the same issues last month. I found that one of the apps I downloaded that used google maps, was causing the issue. Once I uninstalled the app, google maps and the navigation started to work again. I believe the app that was giving me the problems was called Precisely.

I had an app that did the same thing. Mine was a traffic cam app. I believe it happened after an update of that app. Uninstalling the app corrected the GPS.

I thought about which apps have been updated recently and a couple came to mind. So I unistalled the free DailyRoads Voyager app from the company DailyRoads and tested my navigation again.

Bam! GPS was found IMMEDIATELY!

Just to be sure it worked 100%, I jumped into my car and took a quick drive around my building and the compass worked, the route was plotted and once again I heard the constipated voice of my friendly robotic Droid navigation woman who sounds like she is out of breath when she squawks directions to me.

OK... I'm good now, so I'll stop hijacking jigsawkilr's thread now! :happy:

Yeah, still a few glitches in the SW. Despite all the "every things OK" posts, weird results can occur. Here's a post I made in a different forum yesterday:

"I had a funny one this morning. I turned the map on while riding the train to Sea-Tac airport. Initially, it gave me a rough location, based on the cell signal. After I turned on the GPS, it showed me moving fast, around Wallace, Idaho. I turned the map & GPS off & tried again; this time, the Droid showed I was moving very fast, near Billings, MT.

I just tried it again, in the backyard. The GPS took a long time to lock-on, but got finally got it right."

Overall, Google Maps works pretty well, but it can sometimes bite you...!

VZ Navigator to Droid/Google Navigation is as a Daewoo to a Cadillac. I suppose they both get you where you're going, most of the time, but I'll drive the Caddy.

The gist of the article was that there would have to be some serious updating in the near future if the world wanted to continue to use gps. I think of this when my gps is a bit slow to find me. Maybe it means nothing but it could be a satellite problem and not the gps itself. Of course since I am far from techy I could be way off the mark.

VZ Nav is what BB users HAVE to use. Another reason BB fails.

Very true. The orbits for many were starting to decay in 2009 resulting in a number of them being useless from 2010 onward until replacements were launched. To make matters worse....no replacements are planned.
