signal bar color

I just got the Note 2 and I just switched to Sprint. I have full wifi signal but the bars are grey. Even when I switch to 3g, I have full bars but they are grey. I noticed some say that means you're not connected to Google services but im able to get emails, text , talk and web surf normally. Is this normal? My Gnex is blue

On my s3 grey is actual the color that means it's connected.
It's Odd, as on my bionic the color was blue.
They're both galaxy so I assume this applies to u
