Any way to not have to unlock the phone when you get a new text message other than bypass the lock altogether? Seems like a pain to have to unlock each time you want to answer a text...

Handcent will turn the screen on and show you the message in a window. You can reply from there, all without swiping to unlock. It is very customizable.

I'm going to take a guess and say that he has a lock pattern, and i'm also going to guess that neither app is going to override it. I used to have a pattern lock, and then I decided it wasn't worth the hassle. If you want to have one when you are at work or school, there is a widget that I found that is capable of toggling your lock pattern on and off again, but be warned, last time I checked, it isn't FroYo compatible. Also note that that was a few months ago, back before FroYo was officially released

SMS popup will display a message on your screen that you have a text, but before you can view it you still need to unlock the phone. Kind of a hassle, but if the phone unlocked automatically it wouldnt be very secure, plus you'd be pocket replying to incoming texts.

For those of you that dont lock your phone, be carefull. Anybody gets hold of your phone and they will have access to all of your personal info on it including your email, contacts, notes, text history, calendar.....etc.

Well I was actually meaning the swipe lock on the home screen and having to swipe to unlock every time I get a new text. Easiest way around that is not having the screen/swipe lock enabled during the day while I'm sitting at my desk, then enable it when I have the phone in my pocket.

So any way to add a shortcut to turn lock on/off that you can put on home screen?

Reread my post about Handcent. You don't need to swipe to unlock to view and reply to text messages.
