[RUMOR] Droid 3 end of life?

If the rumor coming from an anonymous tipster at the Verge turns out to be true we could be seeing the Droid 3 reaching it's EOL later this month. The tipster claims the "last shipments of the Droid 3 will be arriving in January." Pretty crazy after 6 months we are seing this but there has been a lot of chatter, with pics, to support the rumor of a Droid 4 release in February so we really can't say we are surprised.

The idea of handsets reaching EOL after 6 months is a little concerning but lets hope that Verizon continues to support the Droid 3.

Other equipment the tipster said was on the list includes the LG Revolution (seven months on the market), the BlackBerry Curve 3G, and the Palm Pre 2. Additionally Verizon is supposedly discontinuing all its available Mi-Fi Hotspots, as well.

It's still the best 3G phone available for Verizon IMO, regardless of its EOL status.

+1. The D3 is still a very good phone. With the D4 coming its expected, but doesn't mean the D3 is outdated. Its the last high end 3G only phone the VZW will market. I am glad I got it and waited a generation or 2 on 4G. When my next upgrade comes LTE will be sorted out and that phone will be outstanding.

I would have stayed with 3G phones if Verizon hadn't come out with the Nexus. I don't even really use 4G. I just wanted a Nexus .

I don't even own a D3 and I think that's crazy. Way to fast for it to be EOLed already.

As online support-groups have popped up for D3 owners, who are experiencing grief, disorientation, and depression at the news of the D4 release, I've been saying over and over that those feelings are real, and they deserve sympathy and compassion.

I think this news pretty much provides a final and convincing response to those callous "other-phone" owners who tended to say, "SUCK IT UP!" No, this is unusual, over the top, and really, really frustrating. And we're not overreacting! ;) OK, maybe we're a little melodramatic, but it's still pretty annoying.

Bah! Who cares about support from Big Red? With Dev's like Buckmarble, Pedwards3x, HashCode, ChevyCam, etc. the 3 will be viable for a good long time.

Time, which maybe VZW can use to finally figure out how to make 4G reliable. :D

The D3 will still be supported just like the dx and d1 is still being supported. I believe EOL is more about how much inventory they will keep in stock and when they will basically put a halt to production. Vzw and motorola has enough in the system to handle warranties and new purchases. I would not be surprised if the bionic hit EOL in February. We are set for year 2 of LTE devices and CES is around the corner.

And a global phone to boot.

If this is true, I wonder how many they sold. Heh, under the right circumstances the D3 might even increase in value if they become hard to find and people are looking for a Global smart phone that supports 3G...

I'm more interested on thei plans for support. Moto should really unlock the bootloader when that ship sails thou.

You know what I just realized? EOL possibly means no ICS. Hmm, interesting. Of course, many of us would have ended up with the modded version, but it's too bad if there's never a stock version for the D3. I can't believe I'm feeling burned, but I'm feeling burned.

It really bothers me that a lot of OEMs aren't supporting their devices for the 18 month period like Google intends for them to. Assuming that the Droid 3 doesn't get official ICS, 6 months of support is inexcusable. Luckily, the D3 has a great development backing like hokie said.
