I was thinking about rooting my Droid but I wanted to know what would change about my phone as it is now. Thanks in advanced.

You should do it! The biggest perk is the overclocking.. but also think of all the themes you get to choose from after rooting! You could get your phone to EXACTLY how you want it to look.. this is just my humble opinion.. but I say go for it. You could always unroot it if you change your mind. :)

P.S
I highly recommend

I rooted my droid in May. I spent hours and days reading many sites on the subject....watched a dozen YouTube videos walking me through the process. I made sure I understood every single syllable of every word....2 1/2 hours later my phone told me I was a 'superuser'. ( probably a good thing I wasn't hooked up to a blood pressure cuff else I'd be written off as a heart attack waiting to happen I was so worried I'd brick my Droid)

I can only say the power of feeling 'in full control' of my phone was a rush like a gateway drug. ( For the record, I'm a 57 year old grandma of 4)

DO IT!

To specifically answer your question. If you just root, nothing (as far as you can see/experience) will change.

Think of it like this. Most of your utilities in a house are in the basement. But let's say that the basement was locked and off limits to you. So, circuit breakers, hot water heater temperature, thermostat, all that stuff would be inaccessible. Rooting just unlocks the basement. You don't have to go down there, you don't have to change things, but...you can change ALL of it, if you want.

Good explanation, I'm rooted and I do not run a custom rom. One of the things you will notice if you look for it is you can move a lot more apps to the SD card. And you have access to more programs that are available in the Market. You can overclock your Droid.

You don't have to use a custom app to enjoy the benefits of rooting.

Thanks for all the replies! I have been looking into how to root my phone and will follow all steps that are required. I like the explanation you gave me it makes it seem well worth doing. I'm big into customizing things so that's what I look forward to doing. I wasn't aware that there are videos on how to do it, any chance I could get a link for one that was detailed? ?

just use YouTube....search:"rooting Droid" and there are many to look at. Some are longer than others and some more technical than others. You need to simply browse yourself and decide which one works for you
