Hello all,
I am quite a noob with android rooting, but as I am geekier than the average user I want to get deeper.
As far as I can understand, rooting alone is of no use for the average user. Rather it is the first important step towards the installation of a new ROM that will give the user more control over his/her phone. The step sequence is:
1) Find a vulnerability -> exploit it (ROOTING complete) -> chmod /system to rw -> install custom recovery image -> install modified firmware update -> enjoy the phone!
or
2) Device in boot-loader mode and connected to PC -> issue command like "fastboot oem unlock" -> install modified firmware update -> enjoy the phone!
Number 2) does not require root, right?
Is the above correct or am I missing something / or misunderstood?
In case this is correct, does this mean that the important part is the remount of the /system partition?
Is rooting alone (without the image update) of any use?
Thank you!
