I am new to forum and rooting. Can someone direct me to site to root my phone? Also, a quick 2 questions. Will I be able to backup my contacts before rooting and will rooting enable me to utilize wi-fi hotspot without calling Verizon to turn it on and charging me?
thanks

Best way to root is with z4root. I would go to market and download 4shared and open that, then search z4root.apk and download the app. Open it and hit permanent root and shazam your rooted. When rooted go to market and download wifi tether and the you have a hotspot.

I use titanium backup but rooting doesn't wipe anything so no need in my opinion

Check and see if you have superuser in your apps. It will have a skull and crossbones. If not go to z4root app and unroot and root again

it says " an error occurred and su was not updated. a zip file has been placed on your sdcard. please reboot into recovery mode and flash it to update your su binary." i don't have a clue what that means or how to do it. Also, says, when trying to use wifi tether.."unable to start tethering, is you your device rooted?"
thanks

Did you hit "permanent root" or "temporary root". A buddy of mine had this problem but that's because he hit temporary. Then he just unrooted and re-rooted

Go to the z4root app and hit unroot then hit permanent root and you should be fine

Why isn't z4root available in the Android Market directly?

Why host it or direct people to get it from an illegal source that pirates software?

Its not a carrier approved app. Because it allows services for free that other wise would be charged for. Namely wifi tethering

Is rooting really worth it? And what happens if something gets messed up?
