Hello all...

Question for you all is this: How do I rot my phone AFTER recieving the OTA update on 07/08/11?

Do I still need the leaked MR2.0 or us ethe one that was sent OTA?

Sorry guys, but never rooted before and want to do it the right way the FIRSt time lol...

All I am interested in is rooting the phone. Not gonna install a rom cause i dont know which I want yet..

Thanks in advanced all...

you won't need a different radio. As far as I know, rooting shouldn't be any different than what's in the rooting guides from before.

The otas can not be rooted you are gonna have to downgrade using the methods shown in the root thread and all future otas must be from the devs.

Not sure about auto roots, but when you root some Roms will need different radios like the froyo roms use a different radio from the gingerbread roms. READ BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING usually people that don't read and just jump the gun brick there phones and then are crying

Rooted HTC Thunderbolt

is there any way to root with the latest update after july 8th?

No matter what update you have it can be rooted because in order to root you are going to put the same software used to root the phone on opening day on your phone now. So basically you are reverting your phone back to earlier software to root then you will update using roms or software put out by devs.

i see, so basically in the root process we need to revert the software back to old firmware.

am i right in saying this? so in order to get htc/android's new software upgrades, we will need to rely on manually retrieving and installing them? we will also never be able to use the default "settings, check for new software" option?

Another dumb question...

I have read that rooting the phone will cause you phone to be wiped clean (loose all data), If this just limited to the internal 8GB drive, or will I also loose all the data on the 32GB removable SD card as well?

Thanks all

No, data on your SD card is untouched.

Hey folks,

Somewhat of a noob question (I personally use a Droid X).

My mom's Rooted Thunderbolt has been bouncing back and forth with the July OTA. It just installs itself during the night, making the little triangle/:greendroid: pop up. She knows the procedure to wipe the cache and all, but it's getting annoying and daily.

Is there a rooted version of the OTA that I can install?
Is there something I can change on the phone to stop the OTA? (Preferably w/o flashing any ROMs).

What are my options here?

Thanks,

Mike.
