In the south Barq's (barks) is #1. When people ask for a root beer, thats what they mean. Give them a Mug, and you'll get a funny look. :icon_eek:
You have to shop around, cans are the most popular. But you can get it in bottles. I think anything thats in glass bottles taste better. +1 for root beer floats.
Theres even Barq's cream soda. Regular and red.
someone told me "Dads" root beer sucked, have any of you had that?

If Fred Samford had a word for Dad's, it would be "Ripple".
A&W root beer in an ice cold mug at a drive in A&W. I don't know if they even exist anymore. Papa Burgers, Mama Burgers, and Baby Burgers.
There is a drive through A&W in Kenosha, WI. Anytime my wife and I drive up to milwaukee from chicago to see my folks I try to stop for a Papa Burger and fried cheese curds along with my float. I also know of one in Denver that we would go to when my band played there and Dubuque, IA.A&W root beer in an ice cold mug at a drive in A&W. I don't know if they even exist anymore. Papa Burgers, Mama Burgers, and Baby Burgers.

When I was a kid around 1965 I lived in Hawthorne, California. The same city that the Beach Boys come from. Hawthorne Blvd. was uniquely designed, it had two lanes of traffic in two directions and in the center there were parking islands.
So it was a perfect place for teen agers to cruise. And when you cruised the boulevard that meant going to the always packed A&W Drive in.

I was a bit too young to "Cruse the A" in 1965, I was 13 years old. My buddies would hoof it over there though and sit outside with the root beer and burgers at the patio tables. We'd take dibs on the cool cars that were come and go (65 Mustang, Dibs!)
By the time I got to high school the A&W was gone. Probably because it was a public nuisance. People came from all over Southern California to cruise this place.
