If I were to root my Bionic with Safestrap and Eclipse 2.2, and that was the only rom that I use, what is the advantage of rooting? Is it a speed issue, bloatware (does it allow me to freeze apps?), better battery life? I'm thinking about rooting, but could someone enlighten me a little? TIA.

Saferstrap and Eclipse do not root your device. you have to root inorder to install them

Rooting just allows you to give high-level (root) permissions to apps. You mentioned freezing bloatware for example. Titanium backup is capable of that, but only if it has root permissions. AdFree can block ads across your whole phone, but only if it has root permission to modify some important files.

Eclipse runs smooth IMO, no bloat, less lag, and all features work as good or better than stock. I've been running it for almost 2 months now and even got the offer to soak test from Motorola, and I chose not to do it because I don't want to switch back to stock.
