Ringtones/Notifications/phonecalls through speaker instead of headphones?

Yeah, so whenever I get a notification, phone call, or place a call and have it plugged into the car or some external speakers, it will play the audio through the external speakers and not the phone. I want it to play ringtones, notifications, and phone calls through the phone's speaker instead of the external... it's hard to recognize the sounds if it's coming through car speakers as opposed to the phone's... any settings or apps that will fix this?
