Ringtone question

I had a friend email me a ringtone, my droid x couldn't open the attatchment so I sent it through the verizon messaging. I see the ringtone and can play it but I can't set it as a ringtone. Its a amr file not sure if that's an issue. Any input on what I can do would be appreciated

Im a noob here, but I use AVS audio/video editor. Its not free, but you can convert ringtones, create ringotones, edit them and save them in any format (yes AMR).

When I switched from Sprint I swiped all my custom tones in AMR and converted them. Worth the $$$.
